兴起于11世纪，12－13世纪达到鼎盛，15世纪以后逐渐走向瓦解。它是与宗教神学相结合的唯心主义哲学，属于欧洲中世纪特有的哲学形态，是天主教教会用来训练神职人员，在其所设经院中教授的理论，故名经院哲学。其代表人物有安瑟伦、托马斯·阿奎那等，经院哲学并不研究自然界和现实生活中的事物，它的主要任务是对天主教教义、教条进行论证，以神灵、天使和天国中的事物为对象。当然，在神学允许的范围内也讨论了一些哲学问题，其中最突出的是关于一般和个别的关系问题，对这一问题的不同回答，形成了激烈斗争的两派，即唯名论和唯实论。唯实论认为，一般先于个别，是存在于个别事物之外的一种实在；唯名论则相反，认为只有个别事物是实在的，一般知识是人们用来表示个别事物的名称和概念，他没有实在性。中世纪是哲学变为神学的婢女的蒙难期，经院哲学是理性思维产生的怪胎，但其内部唯名论与唯实论之争仍显现着人类的哲学思维在向前迈进。
经院哲学（Scholaticism）是一种为宗教神学服务的思辨哲学。它的研究只允许在基督教教义的范围内自由思维，为信仰找合理的根据。它反对离开教义而依靠理性和实践去认识和研究现实。因而其结论也不受经验和实践的检验。经院哲学往往争论一些荒唐的问题，如“天堂里的玫瑰花有没有刺？”“上帝能否制造出自己举不起来的石头？”“天使吃什么?”“一根针尖上能站多少天使？”“到世界末日，死人复活时，是青年还是老年？”“鼹鼠有没有眼睛？”等等，都是一些脱离实际、烦琐空洞的抽象议论。
经院哲学运用理性形式通过抽象而烦琐的辩证方法论证基督教信仰。经院哲学家们围绕着共相与个别、信仰与理性的关系展开了长期的斗争，形成了“唯实论”和“唯名论”两个派别。唯名论的代表是法兰西的罗瑟琳（Rucelinus，1050—1108）。他认为，只有个别的东西有实在性，“共相”或“一般”只是个名称、概念。这种思想在宗教上，否认了三位一体的最高神，只承认分别存在的圣父、圣子、圣灵。唯名论接近真理，但它不能说明一般与个别的矛盾统一关系，不能作出彻底唯物主义的结论。唯名论没有摆脱唯心主义体系而成为独树一帜的唯物主义哲学，只是表现出新世界观发展的趋势。唯实论的代表是安瑟尔谟（Anselmus，1033—1108）。他认为，真实存在的是“共相”，不是具体的个别的事物，只是“一般”是惟一的实在。这种思想在宗教上，承认普遍的教会存在，认为个别的教会是从属的，承认三位一体的最高的神的存在，认为三位分离的神是从属的。“唯实论”是正统经院哲学，是官方教会用以维护正宗神学、教会的最高统治地位和封建秩序的理论基础。作为非正统派的唯名论主张自由争论基督教的思想体系，反对教权至上，政治上倾向王权。当时城市市民的异端运动、自由思想运动和新兴工商业阶层发展实验科学是同唯名论思潮有联系的。因此，唯名论同唯实论的斗争具有重要的社会意义。
经院哲学的集大成者是托马斯•阿奎那斯（Thomas Aquinas，1225—1274）。他是意大利神学家和经院哲学家，曾先后充任亚历山大四世（1254—1261在位）、乌尔班四世（1261—1264在位）和克力门特四世（1265—1268在位）三个教皇的教廷神学教授及法王路易九世的顾问，属经院哲学唯实论者。由于他著述甚广，有“天使博士”（Doctor Angelicus）之称。他又被称为“神学之王”。阿奎那斯的主要著作有：《论存在与本质》、《哲学大全》、《亚里士多德〈政治学〉注释》、《神学大全》等。其中《神学大权》是他论述神学思想最重要的、最系统的著作，是经院哲学的百科全书。他鼓吹教皇是上帝在人间的代表，位于世俗君主之上，而封建等级的划分是上帝的安排。他的神学著作，教会加以编辑，成为基督教神学的典范，其权威仅次于《圣经》。阿奎那斯说，如果知识不以论证上帝为目的，则任何知识都是罪恶。他创立的“宇宙秩序论”认为，宇宙秩序是上帝按等级体系进行安排的。最底一级的是无生命界，再上是植物界，再上是动物界，再按等级阶梯上升到人、圣徒、天使，至高无上的是上帝。在宇宙秩序中，下级服从上级，上级统御下级，层层统御，层层归属，最后统属上帝。如果人想改变上帝的安排，去提高等级，那是犯罪的。1879年，教皇立奥十三世在《永恒之父》中通谕将阿奎那斯的学说确立为教会哲学的最高权威。教会和一切封建势力，都把它当作最重要的思想武器，来维护其统治地位和正统信仰，扼杀和窒息一切进步思想。

It's so interesting, especially the questions they are searching answers for, such as "what do angels eat?" Maybe combining all the so-called scientific researches with god worship will be an appropriate way to satisfy human desire for sole and mind. Religion and Science were never providing answers for same questions, while they did make us live better, in different ways. You may work conscientiously in the day and pray for god at night, with your mind calm and knowledge growing. It suddenly came to my mind that philosophy may be the only possible thing to connect these two, if it is capable of. But this kind of philosophy could not be the one associated with techologies and skills, but the one relevant to ultimate human and social problems.

I currently find the above words a little confusing and not well organized. By the way, I myself don't know what I'm writing about or what information I'm going to convey... Just forget about it...haha

All I want to say is that if 4400 will not continue in the coming year, I will be very upset. I like the story and the characters within. Besides that, it makes me feel the power of time, morality, humanity and the meaning of life. All the 4400 were replaced in the time line to do the right time, to save the human race from extinction. But according to Jordan Collier, it is a fight not only belong to the 4400s, but a fight belong to all, the 4400s and non-4400s. No matter you have super ability or not, you are here to bring human race a bright future.

Philosophically there is no definitely right or wrong to judge any behavior, for anyone has the right and freedom to be what he/she wants to be. No one is willing to sacrifice his own family even if it is for the greater good in the future. Human beings are of sentiment, which makes us different from other animals and makes us strong and invincible. We care about our parents, brothers and sisters, and our children, our lovers. We will protect them with our lives if needed. Correcting the history and ensuring a better future does not mean we can change people's lives optionally. Our place in time should be founded on our own, not placed by others. The public need to be shocked and alerted to know the possible bad consequences if we do not try our best to live on this planet. They should know that we should all cherish our brilliant lives and people we love, thus they could find their places in time and do the right thing in the right way. Time has the greatest power in the world, which controls the development and evolvement of us. We are like the dots on the time line and all we can do is to move forward, even though we know there may be dangers, conflicts, separation, hurt, wars and even death. We still try hard to move forward, hand in hand, for there are connections, peace, memories, excitement, happiness and love.
